Hi, I’m Susannah

I live and work in Seattle, WA.

My work is rooted in paying attention—really noticing what’s around me. I move through the world constantly looking for paintings, staying awake to color, light, and composition as they appear in lived experience. Walking, hiking, and returning again and again to the landscape are essential parts of my practice, helping me maintain a sense of curiosity and wonder.

I’m deeply interested in strong color relationships and in the challenge and pleasure of recreating what it feels like to be somewhere. Experiencing nature feels essential to feeding the soul; painting becomes a way to respond—to translate presence, movement, and memory into something physical.

I work quickly and intuitively. Most paintings are completed in just two sessions, allowing immediacy to guide decisions and helping the paintings to retain a sense of freshness and responsiveness. The aim is to create a strong feeling of place through color.

My current body of work focuses on Pacific Northwest landscapes, shaped by years of walking, returning, and sustained looking. These paintings reflect an ongoing practice of presence—an attempt to stay awake to the world, to honor the places I move through, and to remain attentive to the beauty that exists everywhere.

Susannah received a BFA in painting from Tyler School of Art, Temple University, in 2008 (Magna Cum Laude) and studied at campuses in Elkins Park, PA and in Rome, Italy.
